Willowgrove Work Bee

Willowgrove Work Bee

This May 4th, many hands will make light work! Much like an old barn raising, we hope to come together as a community to do the impossible! Our goal: to convert the foundation of an old chicken barn (Belonging to AD Grove) into an outdoor terrace and gathering space adjoining our greenhouse.

The greenhouse, which was built in 2021 through a donation by Willowgrove founder, Glen Brubaker (Watch Time Lapse Here), will also receive a makeover: finishing off the interior so that it can be better utilized for Outdoor Ed's Plant and Seed program, WDC's nature program, and Take Root's Parent and Tot, and Nature School programs.

9:00 am - Arrival

12:00 pm - Lunch (supplied by Willowgrove)

2:00 pm - Departure

Where your favourite Star Wars shirt, get your hand dirty, and enjoy some pizza on us! To RSVP, email Willowgrove's Recreation Director, Maeyken Jones below. Please be sure to mention any dietary needs too!

Practicing Peacemaking Workshop

Practicing Peacemaking Workshop

Practicing Peacemaking Workshop:
Sat. Aug. 12 @ 1-3pm

Willowgrove is very excited to be hosting Peter Haresnape (Bio below) for a 2-hour workshops in the Indoor Pavilion space on Saturday, August 12.

This engaging, skills-based workshop teaches participants about the concepts and theories of non-violence, and features stories from Anabaptist (“Peace Church”) peacemakers throughout history.

Participants will also be given the tools for how to successfully analyze conflict, learning practical techniques for implementing various forms of non-violent intervention.

COST: SUGGESTED DONATION IS $10
(Free for all Mennonite Fellowship Festival campers)

About Peter Haresnape

Peter was born into a non-denominational Christian community in England, giving him early experience of living out faith in every aspect of life. He studied English Literature at Stirling University, where he also encountered theologies of liberation and solidarity, calling followers of Jesus into action for social justice. Following that call he came to Turtle Island in 2010 to work with Christian Peacemaker Teams as part of the Indigenous Solidarity program. Peter has been active in interpreting issues of decolonization and solidarity to the Church through sermons, workshops, and two chapters in Unsettling the Word – Biblical Experiments in Decolonization (Mennonite Church Canada 2018).

After attending for several years, Peter formally joined TUMC in 2015 and has served on Preaching Team, as a Junior Youth Sunday School teacher, and as a consultant to the Mission and Service Committee. Since 2016, Peter has been the National Coordinator of the Student Christian Movement of Canada (SCM). In that role Peter is a core organizer of the Cahoots Festival, an annual ecumenical skill-sharing event focused on faith and justice.

Peter accepted a call to pastoral ministry at TUMC in November 2019.
Peter is married to Ken, living together with housemates in Toronto’s former Catholic Worker community. Peter enjoys Arthurian literature, roleplaying games, small group Bible studies without foregone conclusions, and drinking cups of tea with friends and enemies.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:

Community Mennonite Church of Stouffville commissioned Theatre of the Beat to create Selah’s Song in 2013. It was performed in partnership with Stouffville’s Nineteen on the Park Theatre, premiering in January of 2014. This original production acted as a community theatre project, bringing together an eclectic +40-person cast and live band, and featured many Willowgrove connections. Now in 2022, Theatre of the Beat has restaged the production as a four-person show with professional actor/musicians/puppeteers and is currently touring across Canada. We are very excited to host this production at Willowgrove.
