This summer Fraser Lake Camp received an incredible gift!

Restoring Hope

Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) Canada is a non-profit that organizes volunteers from across the country to rebuild homes after natural disasters.

However, they also sponsor an annual Family Project that brings together people of all ages and experience to demonstrate what it is like to work on an MDS project, foster community, and to teach important life skills.

This summer, MDS Canada hosted a Family Project at Fraser Lake Camp.

The 2024 Project: Restoring Hope

  • The Scope

From July 5 to August 2, around 50 volunteers came to spend (at least) a week at Fraser Lake Camp, giving of their time and talents. Because of the volunteer labour, FLC only needed to pay for the construction supplies and building materials.

  • The Build

In total, MDS Canada completed 3 new structures from scratch, and worked to finish off 2 others. MDS Canada also helped to sponsor one of the buildings, paying for all the materials and supplies. It's been so inspiring to see people come together, living out their beliefs in such practical ways.

  • The Opening

On the last day of the build, we held a ribbon cutting ceremony (Fittingly made of Friendship-bracelet string) to acknowledge the project and to officially name our new Family Volunteer Cabin "Hope House." We are so incredibly grateful to MDS Canada for their generosity with this project.

Please consider giving towards the costs and materials of the building project.
